May Update from Elizabeth

Happy May, Ladies!!!  (I know I’m a few days late, but better late than never, right? 🙂 )

I hope you all had a great Easter.  For those of you who haven’t seen it, you can read my thoughts from last year here.  This year, I spent some time just thinking about the fact that this was my God Who gave His life for me.  You can hear a great song about that idea here.

I’ve received quite a few comments and e-mails asking when there will be a new tutorial, what’s happened to me, etc.  Let me assure you: I’m not dead, just my computer is– or as my southern daddy would say “day-yed.”  🙂  The computer that I do all my pictures on has developed this nasty habit of randomly shutting down every so often.  The internet isn’t really functional, but we have the system on life support so that we can write papers for school.  If you have written me or asked a question, I’ll try to respond when I can.  It’s just that at this stage of my life right now, blogging isn’t my top priority.  Real life has thrown more at me in the last few months than you can imagine.  The rest of this month is going to be so busy, I probably won’t be able to post again for several weeks.  So what does that mean for Rapunzel’s Resource?

  1. I have about a half-dozen new tutorials I want to write this summer– specifically some new updos, rope braid ideas, and some stuff from the first two Narnia movies.  There are also some styles that I would like to do videos for, as well.
  2. Some of you have requested some styles and I haven’t approved your requests.  This is because I have decided not to do Sci-Fi styles on Rapunzel’s Resource.  The reason I developed this site was to provide creative styling techniques for long-haired ladies for both modern life and historical re-enactment events.  And Sci-Fi styles are usually impossible without fake hair anyway.
  3. For other movie style requests, I’m working on how to implement a discussion-based movie hair style section on WordPress.  I hope this will allow those who want to be able to work together to figure out how those looks can be replicated.

So after school ends, and graduation and wedding season is over, I hope to have some new things ready for ya’ll.  See you then!

P.S.  I finally saw “Tangled”!  If you’d like to post your thoughts on the movie as a long-haired gal, that would be great.  🙂

Three Announcements

First of all, did anyone notice?

We actually went to 1068 for that day (Friday).

YAAAAAY!!!

Second, as celebration, and because Rapunzel’s Resource’s 1 year birthday is coming up, I will be doing another theme week.  This time, it will be the styles of Narnia.   More details to come soon!

And lastly, this next week and a half I am going on a trip.  I will be visiting . . .

What color is your hair?

I’m really curious to see how you all vote!

There is a new page that you can read about my blouses for those who have asked. (Some of you may have already received this information. I just prettied it up and added links.) Also, I added a page with my blog buttons for those that would like one. I tried to make several different sizes, but I’m not familiar with other blog hosts (Blogspot, Livejournal, etc.). If I missed the one that works for your blog, please let me know!

One other item of business– As soon as I’m able, I’m planning to do tutorials for your requests. Now ladies, I’ve tried to make this like the Garden of Eden: really great, but with one rule. If you are requesting a specific style, you must find a source image for me. When I have to find one or screencap them myself, it doubles the time for a tutorial, and I don’t have that much free time. I’m not upset at those of you who didn’t include a link! Just go back and comment on your original request when you have one. Thank you!

Have a Fabulous Friday!

For those with Short Hair

I’ve received a lot of requests for styles for short hair. While I’m willing to help you all out, I specifically started this site as a blog for long hair tutorials because all the styles I could find online were for shorter hair that didn’t work for me.

I’ve tried to do some short-hair tutorials, but my shorter-hair friends and family aren’t available for tutorials pictures that often.  And I’m just better with long hair because that’s what I have and can play with whenever I want.  ; )

In answer to some of your questions, I have never donated my hair, and it’s always been long. Well, as far back as I can remember. For proof, here’s a picture of me when I was nine years old. (Because I’m the only redhead in my family, and neither of my parents have red hair either, they didn’t want to cut it. My blond sister, on the other hand, grew up with Shirley Temple ringlets.) Technical Issues

Hi everybody!

Sorry I haven’t had any new tutorials for a while. My computer mouse has been misbehaving very badly! It’s registering every click as a double click so every time I try to do anything with a picture, it opens a gazillion copies, and then my computer crashes. I’m also having trouble the with my picture host and getting uploads to “stick.” This is so frustrating because I just got a new memory card for my birthday (which was Sunday, by the way ;-)) so I don’t have to borrow daddy’s any more. *Sigh* Requests are not being ignored, I assure you!

On a much more pleasant note, I also received the Elizabeth Gaskel boxed set for the afore mentioned birthday. My mom, sister, and I finished “North and South” the other day and enjoyed it immensely!

Bleak House: Version 2

Here’s “Bleak House” version 2. This style was inspired by the green dress style and some elements I liked from others so it’s not an exact copy. My other purpose was something for those of my readers who have straight hair. The current style for period drama hair seems to be very wavy/curly hair loosely looped back. If your hair doesn’t have much texture, there are some other ways to get a similar look. This also works great if you forgot to set your hair the night before. 😉 Continue reading
